Great tradition of Rajdharma in India: Instruction of Maharishi Narada

Prof. Kusumlata Kedia

In Mahabharat, in the 5th chapter, Lokpal Sabha, many Maharishis is great. It is described in the court of Yudhishthira, where and kings lived in the meeting, in which the sages of Vedas and Upanishads, the sages worshiped by the gods, the scholars of the history Puranas, the scholars of justice, the knowers of religion and education, kalpa, grammar, nirukta, verses and astrology. Excellent knower of these six limbs and full of knowledge of Oneness, Sanyognanatva and Samvaya, brilliant orator, intelligent, reminiscent, ethicist, trikaldarshi, eyewitness of the fourteen earthly bodies, great intelligent, expert in Samkhya and Yoga, understanding the element of Sandhi and Deity, Politics A penetrating scholar of all the six parts (Sandhi, Deity, Yan, Asana, Dvaidhibhava and Samasraya), an accomplished scholar of all the scriptures, the deity Narada, skilled in the art of war and music, suddenly came. That Brahmarishi Dharmaraja Yudhishthira respected him very much. He blessed Maharaj Yudhishthira. All the Pandavas received blessings by bowing to him with love, humility and humility. The virtuous king worshiped him methodically with gems by giving Madhuparka and Arghya. Satisfied Brahmarishi Narada started teaching Yudhishthira in the form of a question. It becomes clear from these questions that it is in fact a part of the Rajdharma is rendering. About the work that the king must do in itself. Narad ji asked the question and said whether all this happens in your kingdom or not? From this point of view this is a very important episode.
Brahmrishi Narad said - 'Rajan, is your wealth sufficient for the sacrifice, charity, and maintenance of people performed by you. Do you enjoy religion? Is your mind not distracted from duty by the attraction of pleasures? Do those other instincts cause shock or distraction in your mind? Do you treat the subjects of the four varnas in the same manner as your father and grandfather etc. have been doing? Do you harm the religion by falling in the greed of money or do you harm the meaning and effort by engaging only in religion? Do you not hinder the efforts of religion by getting caught in the attachment of sex and money? Do you have the right knowledge of all three, Dharma, Artha and Kama? And do you consume everyone in the right way?"
Further Brahmarishi Narada said - 'O King, you are the best among the victorious heroes. Do you always imbibe the six qualities prescribed for kings? These six qualities are - eloquence, prudence, reasoning, memory of the past, vision of the future and morality. With these six gunas you adopt seven measures, don't you? The seven remedies are mantras, medicines, creation of illusions when necessary, and Sama, charity, punishment and distinction. You, the district, the fort, the chariot, the elephant, the horse, the brave soldier, the state officer, your inner city, the granary, the calculation (census and the treasury count), the scriptures, the accounts, the money and the force, keeping constant care of these 14 subjects, examine and test them. Do you keep doing it? Do you always keep on remembering your own power and the power of your enemy? Do these eight deeds for the increase of wealth and funds while making a treaty with a strong enemy - (1) expansion of agriculture, (2) protection of trade, (3) protection and construction of forts, (4) construction of bridges and their protection, (5) rearing of elephants, (6) right over the mines of gold-diamond-jewels etc., (7) due collection of tax and (8) settlement of people in desolate areas.'
It is clear that if we keep the knowledge of these things, then we will get clear about the many works of our current Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. When to campaign on whom, and when to wait for time by staying calm in one's own place, when to quarrel with which enemy and how to create duality in them, and which strongman to take along And the idea of whom to reconcile is the duty of the best ruler. Those of the opposition who, by not adopting these measures, always urge the Prime Minister to launch a campaign in every subject only and to appear or announce that they are continuously suppressing terrorists etc. and thus obstructing the actual campaign, They are either not serious in these matters or forget the interest of the nation in the competition for power.
Further Brahmarishi Narada asked Dharmaraja Yudhishthira that O India, the kingdom of the seven natures i.e. the seven organs ruler, secretary, treasury, nation, the army, the people of the nation and friends take full care of these seven. No? Neither of these is coming under the guise of the enemy or the enemy, can't find it? (Many of our so-called voluntary organizations  and some people in the media and some politicians from the opposition are also seen meeting like this).
Narad ji asked- Rajan, the rich people of your kingdom should love you, don't you take care of it? Do those rich people fall into addictions that weaken human beings from within? At the same time, by becoming a friend of enemy's spies, do they not take any distinction from your secretaries etc.? Do you have proper knowledge about all the three types of people, friend, foe and indifferent? Do you choose to be your secretaries only to old people who are polite and reliable, virtuous and hostile to life, old people in the arts and sciences of knowledge, crafts, etc., don't you? Because the root cause of victory is good advice (advice) and its protection. Is your nation safe through secretaries and secretaries who keep secrets secrets and know the scriptures? Are the enemies cracking it?
Brahmrishi Narada, while giving instruction through questions, further said - Do you not fall under untimely sleep? Do you wake up on time? Do you wake up in the last watch of the night and think thoroughly about your interests and duties, don't you? Do not share confidential things with more people? Or does he not ponder on esoteric subjects alone? (Because the ruler alone cannot consider all aspects of esoteric subjects. A reliable and expert secretary is necessary). Do you consider and implement those measures to increase wealth, in which the principal amount is less but the growth is more? Also, if other prominent people in the society also increase wealth in the same way, then your rule does not hinder them? Your kingdom retains all the knowledge of the working people, doesn't it? Do you keep an eye on their actions and activities? Because everyone's support is necessary in a great rise.'
Brahmarshi continued to give questionable teachings, 'You get credible work done only by experts of skill, trustworthy, non-greed and coming from tradition, don't you? Do you keep in mind that people should know about your important works only after accomplishment, not before? Brahmrishi further questioned the Maharaj, 'All kinds of education are given to the leading princes and chief warriors, are they not? The teachers who give that education are the only scholars who are well versed in all the scriptures, are they not? In place of hundreds of fools, you employ only one pundit, don't you? Because in any crisis, only a learned man can do your welfare?
'All your forts and forts are full of riches, armed with weapons, equipped with machines and full of water, and are equipped with craftsmen and armed soldiers, don't they?
'You keep an eye on the eighteen pilgrimages of the enemy, don't you? (These eighteen pilgrimages are - minister, priest, crown prince, commander, gatekeeper, president of the inner city, treasurer, head of prison, finance secretary, internal security secretary, city head, chief operator of craftsmen, bishop, councilor, dandapal, fortress, border guard and forest guard). Similarly, you keep on examining the 15 pilgrimages of your side thoroughly, don't you? (Out of the 18 tirthas mentioned above, except the minister, the priest and the crown prince, all the rest are 15 teerths of Swapaksha).'
'O Yudhishthira, the destroyer of enemies, you are always attentive to the enemy and try your best to destroy them, don't you? Is your priest an expert in diplomacy, aristocrat, a polyglot scholar, free from flaws and skilled in Scripture? You give them full hospitality, don't you?' (O Narendra! How can you sit with Vedic brahmins only by treating ordinary people with knowledge of modern doctrines as scholars? Those who believe that even if you do good deeds, but if you do not believe in our religion or sect, you and your mother And all your family members and all your people who believe in Sanatan Dharma will go to Dujakh or 'Hel', that is, hell, how can you treat them equally? How can you give equal recognition to the faith of that religion which your own ancestors gave considers it worthy of punishment? This is the hospitality of the ineligible and the disrespect of the deserving).
Brahmarshi said- 'O king! You have appointed brahmins who know the method of yajna, are intelligent and simple in nature, for the rituals of yajna, haven't you? He keeps on informing you about the proper timing of the sacrifice from time to time, doesn't he? Are astrologers skilled in the examination of various parts of the body like hands, feet, etc. in your meeting, are they not? The astrologers who tell the motion of planets and their auspicious results and know the method of their mitigation by knowing the calculation of the occurrence of planets are in your court, are they not? You have engaged only the best in great works, haven't you? Middle-class people have been engaged in middle-class tasks and corresponding servants in lower-class jobs, haven't they? Have you made secretaries only to the best people who have come from tradition and morals? Fallen hosts despise the host and modest women despise sensual men, in the same way a ruler with more harsh punishments and higher taxes is despised by the subjects.'
(Comment- This episode of Narad ji, which is very important discussion about Rajdharma, will continue in the next issue also. Because it is still unfinished and it is very important from the point of view of Rajdharma).
