The California State Court in Auckland has ordered Monsanto to pay approximately Rs 14,385 crore ($2055 million) in damages to Alva and Albert Pillod, who filed the lawsuit. This is the highest ever damages in the case.
The jury directed the company to pay $55 million (about Rs 385 crore) separately to each of Alva and Albert Pilod as damages, along with Rs 7-7,000 crore as compensation for economic and non-economic losses. Huh. The lawyers of the complainants have termed the decision as historic.
