If you are fond of cold drinks, ice cream and cakes, then be careful. Eating foods high in sugar not only increases the risk of diabetes, but it also increases the risk of kidney stones by 40%. According to a report published in the research journal Frontiers, people of American and Asian origin are more likely to develop kidney stones due to eating foods high in sugar than people from other places. Dr. Shan Ein, the head of this research, says that this is the first time that kidney stones have been detected due to sweets. Eating sweets in limited quantities can prevent kidney stones.
The researchers found that people who got 25% of their energy from sugar were 88% more likely to develop kidney stones, while those who got only 5% of their energy from sugar had a much lower risk.
The poor are more likely to suffer from kidney stones than the rich
